Enviero Growth Foundation (Enviero) is a registered non-profit organization under Section 8 of companies act 2013. Enviero is dedicated to fostering sustainable development in rural areas. The foundation works at the intersection of clean energy, sustainable agriculture value chain, and rural livelihoods, striving to uplift communities while promoting environmental conservation and economic empowerment. Enviero works on building Climate resilient Agriculture and Carbon Sequestration Projects.
Agriculture and livestock sectors face several climatic challenges, particularly concerning soil health, water availability and overall ecosystem stability. In recent years, High temperatures and erratic rainfalls lead to increased soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, loss of organic matter of soil and declining the fertility of soil. Over extraction of ground water and poor drainage lead to increased soil salinity, making it difficult to grow crops. Ground water is the primary source of irrigation but the overused has led to severe depletion. Recurring droughts lead to crop failures and loss of livestock. Traditional irrigation patterns are also impacting the water table. In Rajasthan approximately 20% farmers hold > 4-hectare land holding, more than 60% farmers hold 1-2 hectare of land. These 20% farmers own the approximately 50% of cultivable land with the high value crops and horticulture. Many of these are progressive farmers and probably some of them adopted the technologies like solar irrigation and micro irrigation etc. but not a major share. There is huge to be taken up in the part of improved practices in agriculture, water and soil fertility across segments.
To combat these challenges, Enviero is focusing on 3 areas 1) Soil Conservation/Soil Fertility through developing sustainable agriculture practices based on Agroecology principles, carbon sequestration and fast adoption of related technologies like scaling biogas, Biochar, Bio Inputs etc. 2) Efficient water use and expansion of micro irrigation and water conservation works 3) Building effective supply chain of the sustainably grown commodities and triggering the better up market connect for improving premium prices, improving livelihoods and developing ecosystem for better post-harvest management.
Why Agroecology based systems needed ? – It is needed to open up the new growth options for farmers along with the preserving the nature. In Agroecology we see the farming as a living system with never ending interactions with animal, plants, microorganisms and nature. To develop an Agroecology base we need to integrate all the components like soil, crops, pest management, irrigation, Fertigation, tillage, pollination, intercropping and many other aspects. Agroecology is a future, which helps humans to reconnect with the nature. Some of the researches said that due to excessive use of chemicals like systemic (neonicotinoid) impacting the decline in the population of honeybees significantly and researches predict that 90% soil will be degraded by 2050. Agroecology based solutions can address the disturbed soil food web nutrient deficient soils, uncontrolled pests etc.
Current Projects of Enviero in Sirohi targeting the Livelihoods and Carbon reduction: Enviero is focused on the building the ecological value chains bringing innovative green energy solutions to impact the community, livelihoods and environment. Some of current works are around such conservation based focus work -
1) Scaling Biogas systems and connecting manure value chain for sustainable Agriculture – Across Rajasthan: In this project, Enviero is targeting more than 3000 HHs in coming 2 years under the manure value chain to trigger the sustainable agriculture and promotion of clean energy for dairy farmers. This project is implementing directly by Enviero in 5 intensive clusters of Sirohi & Jalore, Rajasthan and other locations with the partner organizations and CSR partners. Till the period more than 600+ units have been installed of various capacities ranging from 2 Cubic meters to 6 cubic meters. This project is implementing with the Flexi Biogas manufacturers under their carbon projects. Through this project women farmers are benefiting additional by features of biogas units such as it provides smoke less cooking and reduce drudgery of collecting fire wood. This carbon project will reduce the methane emission from animal waste, approximately one system reduces around 5.5 MT carbon/year. Enviero has plans to promote the production of Phosphate rich organic manure from biogas slurry and aware farmers around the use of slurry in cash and food crops as an organic manure. 2) Solar & micro–Irrigation Systems: Enviero is promoting Solar Irrigation and micro-Irrigation coverage through farmer’s facilitation programme with the existing government schemes such as KUSUM & PMKSY. Facilitating mobilization Solar Pumps in the range of 3 Hp to 7.5 Hp stand along pumps. 3) Building the Agroecology based Spices Clusters in Sirohi with more than 1000 families.
